As an entertainer with Jammin’ DJ’s for going on 5 years, choregraphed dance songs have become a really important part of my arsenal as a DJ. In my experience, every dance floor is different. There is actually kind of an art to choosing music that the majority of an audience is excited to dance to. That’s why DJ’s love playing choregraphed songs. They’re a cheat code. These songs span generations and guarantee that you’ll have bodies on the dance floor, which is obviously the goal of any great DJ. So, with that said, here are choreographed dances that you should know in order to hold your own on the dance floor.
I don’t know about you, but I hate losing more than I love winning. I’ve had that competitive mindset for my entire life. Whether it’s sports, video games, music competitions, or trivia, I want to win. Some of you saw the title of this article and thought, “Well I have fun at trivia either way.” And that’s fantastic! You’re not infected with this competitive disease. It really is a blessing and a curse. Because while winning gives those of us that have it a huge sense of relief, losing can cause a sense of despair that the mentally stable will never have to feel. So, how do you win?

Music can change you. I think we’ve all had that moment when we’re down in the dumps, and just the right song pops on the radio or Pandora, and suddenly the day just feels different. My favorite thing about music is the fact that it can shift your mood entirely with just a downbeat. So, I thought it’d be a fun little exercise to put together a list of 7 separate albums that have changed me. I also think that it can help our readers and prospective clients of Jammin’ DJ’s understand the mindset and depth of knowledge that a DJ/performer has about music, and why we choose the music that we do. That said, here is a list of 7 albums (not songs) to live your life to. This collection of albums spans many genres and eras because so do all of you!
Walk into any party, club, or reception and you’re bound to see at least one. Every dance floor the world over is littered with these less than inventive dancers. As a performer and entertainer for nearly five years with Jammin’ DJ’s, I’ve encountered every imaginable dance style. However, some are so predictable that they border on stereotypical. Each with their own merits, here are five dancers you’ll see on nearly EVERY dance floor…
As a human being that has lived on earth for 33 years, and as a musician/performer for more than half of those years, I’ve attended, performed at, and hosted more events and parties than I could ever possibly count. My experiences have shown me that, while every event is different, there are some definite advantages and disadvantages to certain behaviors and attitudes that hosts bring to the table. That said, here is a list of 3 DO’s and 3 DON’T’S for hosting a spectacular event.
Public speaking is one of the most documented phobias in today’s society. Anyone that has ever had to speak publicly has felt some form of nervousness. It’s natural. People want to be liked, and speaking publicly exposes you to the judgement of a large group of people. As entertainers, at Jammin’ DJ’s we are used to it. We speak to large groups for a living. However, this piece is meant for everyone else. For those of you who are dreading that wedding toast or retirement speech, here are a few tips to calm your nerves and feel confident when you step into the limelight.
Every voice is different. Literally, vocal patterns are as unique as fingerprints. As a DJ, it is YOUR job to ensure that every voice that speaks or sings into your microphone knows how to use it properly. Here are some tips to help every distinct voice you encounter sounds its best.
It’s a question I get every time that I speak to a client about a wedding or party. Every. Time. I always suggest one, and it’s a completely reasonable question to ask. Is a cocktail party worth the extra expense? Unless there is some extreme extenuating circumstance, my answer is always the same… YES. Here are some of the reasons why.
As professional DJ’s, obviously we have the ability to control the music that we play at our shows. But, we CAN’T control the music that artists are putting out on a now DAILY basis. With the rise of SoundCloud, Tik-Tok, and YouTube, artists have seemingly infinite access to platforms to post their music. With the sheer number of consumers out there, one would assume that the cream should rise to the top of any genre.

Everyone knows the job description of a DJ, right? Play music, entertain, keep the crowd hyped. It seems self-explanatory. What most people don’t know, including some DJs and hosts themselves, is that there is so much more to the job than having great mic skills and crafting the perfect playlist. More than fifty percent of our job should be done BEFORE we even reach the venue to set up. A good DJ must be prepared, and here’s how.
As a trivia host with 4+ years of experience working for Jammin’ DJ’s, I’ve come across every type of player imaginable. As different as my events and venues have been, and as unique as the teams I’ve hosted have been, there are certainly some recognizable trends that have emerged when it comes to the types of players that make up any given team. That said, here are five different players that you’ll likely come across in your trivia playing/hosting career.
Let’s start here, just because you ask to hear a song doesn’t mean that we are required to play it. As entertainers, we DJ’s are responsible for entertaining as many people as we possibly can with each and every song we play. When it comes to requesting music, it’s a good idea to keep this in mind. We WANT to play music that you want to hear, and sometimes it’s as simple as asking the question. However, sometimes it can be more complicated than that.
Don’t underdress… Or overdress… Think about it like Goldilocks and the three bears. If you show up to a wedding in jeans and a t-shirt, people are going to look at you funny. That one is obvious. Yet, if you show up in a tuxedo when the groom isn’t even wearing a tie, again, people are going to look at you funny. Moral of the story? Wear something that isn’t going to cause you to stand out, unless standing out is your goal.
Uplighting is a simple and interesting way to transform any venue. Jammin’ DJ’s uses battery powered, free standing uplights in unique ways that allow us to completely change the vibe of any event that we utilize them at. We offer DJ Entertainment, decor/up-lighting, Photobooth, and production lighting services, including cold sparks! JAMMIN' DJs can transform any event to your vision!
After reading the title and recognizing that you’re on the Jammin’ DJ’s site, you probably think that you know exactly where this is going. Live Band = Bad, DJ = Good, right? What you don’t know is that even though I’m a Jammin’ DJ’s employee now, I’ve been a live musician for much, much longer. So, I feel that I’m in a unique position to discuss the benefits of each option with some clarity.
1000 Weddings Early this season, Jammin’ DJ’s manager Bryan Evans DJed his one thousandth wedding. This weekend I sat down with him to discuss his experiences over the eleven years he has spent with Jammin’, and how he got to where he is today.
Every wedding is made up of recognizably magical moments. Everyone knows them. The groom seeing his bride for the first time as she walks down the aisle. The cutting of the cake and subsequent miniature food fight. The wedding party speeches. They’re all important and have the ability to create indelible memories. However, it could be argued that, outside of the ceremony, the most important moment of your special day is your first dance. It sets a precedent and a tone for the reception. What kind of celebration do you want it to be? Quaint and romantic? Elaborate and majestic? Or do you just want to have a heck of a lot of fun? Your first dance can say it all.
More and more today, people are choosing to celebrate the momentous events in their lives in unconventional venues. Weddings, mitzvahs, birthdays, and more are being moved from grand and luxurious halls and hotels to homes, backyards, and barns. Some of the most memorable events I’ve ever hosted and attended have been in some of these quainter venues, largely due to the help of stunning lighting, decoration, and entertainment.
Summer is the perfect season for amazing gatherings with friends and family. The summer holidays, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day are so often celebrated at home with BBQs and house parties. In addition to the holidays, the beautiful weather and long daylight hours of summer are great excuses for celebrating just because. That said, here are some creative ways for you and your friends to up your party game without breaking the bank.
